My neighbor went down to the FBO, and asked about scholarships. To his surprise they had one. All he had to do was write an essay about why he wanted to become a pilot.

He also had me write an essay telling them about how fast and good of a pilot he was, but he doesn’t have alot of money. I wrote my essay and he wrote his. He got the scholarship and to my surprise, only five people applied for the scholarship. Good Luck. Read more on Flight Training Grant

It was my pleasure this evening to call Joe and congratulate him, and to call Rachel and Kyle and make them aware of our decision. I encouraged both Rachel and Kyle to maintain contact with the Chapter, to visit with us, to fly with us and to extend their interests in aviation and in achieving their pilots license. Joe will join us at the Chapter Hangar Sunday during the Air Show, where we will introduce him to the Flight School staff.

The Fred Kacena Flight Training Scholarship is a key aspect of EAA Chapter 240, our support for general aviation and the encouragement of young pilots and their training. However, an equally common mistake for those new to Grant writing is to think that they are not likely to obtain a Grant because they don’t know anything about how to write a Grant. The fact is that many good ideas do not receive funding because a Grant proposal is never written. Our own Grant procedures are very simple and flexible.

Please do not send us a rough idea for a project and ask us if you should write a Grant proposal. It is unfair to you and to other applicants for us to try to answer based on partial information. The opinion of the person who sees your question will not necessarily reflect what the reviewing team might decide if they see your idea in proposal form. If you do not send in a proposal then the one thing we can guarantee is that the reviewing team won’t see it.

We have given many Grants to first-time Grant authors. We do not expect or want elaborate proposals, so if you think your idea fits our objectives, please do send us a proposal.

Real Bucks For Sims: Frasca Announces Mentor Sales | Aero-News ...According to John Frasca, Vice President of Frasca International, ‘We developed the Mentor as a Part Task Trainer to support the new generation of integrated avionics such as the Garmin G1000. We felt that a part task trainer could be of value to the training industry. As the project matured it became apparent that the Mentor was a very capable Flight Simulator.

For smaller schools, the Mentor can serve as the schools only simulator and will provide high quality simulation for Flight training. Larger schools will find the Mentor performs best as Part Task Trainer complimenting Frasca’s TruFlite and Level 6 Flight Training devices. August 21, 2001 Walid Arkeh, a Jordanian serving time in a Florida prison, is interviewed by FBI agents after warning the government of an impending terrorist attack. He had been in a British jail from September 2000 to July 2001, and while there had befriended three inmates, Khalid al-Fawwaz, Adel Abdel Bary and Ibrahim Eidarous. US prosecutors charge that ‘the three men ran a London storefront that served as a cover for al-Qaeda operations and acted as a conduit for communications between bin Laden and his network.’ Al-Fawwaz was bin Laden’s press agent in London, and bin Laden had called him over 200 times before al-Fawwaz was arrested in 1998.

April 2000 (B) Niaz Khan, a British citizen originally from Pakistan, is recruited into an al-Qaeda plot. He is flown to Lahore, Pakistan, and then trains in a compound there for a week with others on how to hijack passenger airplanes. He trains on a mock cockpit of a 767 aircraft (an airplane type used on 9/11). He is taught hijacking techniques, including how to smuggle guns and other weapons through airport security and how to get into a cockpit. He is then flown to the US and told to meet with a contact. He says, ‘They said I would live there for a while and meet some other people and we would hijack a plane from JFK and fly it into a building.’ He has ‘no doubt’ this is the 9/11 plot. But Khan slips away and gambles away the money given to him by al-Qaeda. Afraid he would be killed for betraying al-Qaeda, he turns himself in to the FBI. For three weeks, FBI counterterrorism agents in Newark, New Jersey interview him. One FBI agent recalls, ‘We were incredulous. Flying a plane into a building sounded crazy but we polygraphed him and he passed.’ A former FBI official says the FBI agents believed Khan and tried to aggressively follow every lead in the case, but word came from FBI headquarters saying, ‘return him to London and forget about it.’ So he is returned to Britain and handed over to British authorities. But the British only interview him for about two hours, and then release him. He is surprised that authorities never asked for his help in identifying where he was trained in Pakistan, even after 9/11. His case is mentioned in the 2002 Congressional Inquiry report, but the plot is apparently mistakenly described as an attempt to hijack a plane and fly it to Afghanistan.

The other two had worked in the same office as al-Fawwaz. All three have been indicted as co-conspirators with bin Laden in the 1998 US embassy bombings (see August 7, 1998). Arkeh tells the FBI that he had learned from these three that ‘something big was going to happen in New York City,’ and that they had called the 1993 attack on the WTC ‘unfinished business.’ Tampa FBI agents determine that he had associated with these al-Qaeda agents, but nonetheless they don’t believe him. According to Arkeh, one agent responds to his ‘something big’warning by saying: ‘Is that all you have. That’s old news.’ The agents fail to learn more from him. On September 9, concerned that time is running out, a fellow prisoner tried to arrange a meeting, but nothing happens before 9/11. The Tampa FBI agents have a second interview with him hours after the 9/11 attacks, but even long after 9/11 they claim he cannot be believed. On January 6, 2002, the Tampa FBI issued a statement: ‘The information vetted to FBI New York, the Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Tampa Division and the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida. All agreed the information provided by this individual was vague and unsubstantiated’ Mr. Arkeh did not provide information that had any bearing on the FBI preventing September 11. ‘ However, a different group of FBI agents interviews him later and finds his information is credible (see May 21-22, 2002). The laughter from the rest of the flight drowned out his threats. If he made it through another patrol without going west in a blue on blue, my middle name wasn’t ‘vindictive’. With that cheering thought, I kicked myself into a classic Immelmann, apart from the lateral twitches and the inversion I tacked on the end, to finish up looking down on my final opponent’s cockpit.

Which is where I took up the slack, using my love of spinning like a loon while snapping shots at moving targets and Flying as the gods intended: Laughing and screaming in sheer joy. My touch on the stick overrode the computer pilot; my hand off the stick put it back in control, frantically correcting my carefully induced appearance of lack of control. Which made my manoeuvring utterly beyond any attempt by my opponents to gauge where the hell I was, let alone where I was going to be.

The look on his face was priceless as I vectored my thrusters to place myself nose down and shot him in the head point blank. Actually I shot him in the cockpit as the quad blasters up front don’t do narrower than a metre. With a happy whoop I handed my ship back to itself, told it to return to limp mode and rejoin the flight.

CAE sold a CAE 7000 Series Boeing 757 FFS to Flight Training Finance, a simulator leasing company. The simulator will be delivered in 2009. CAE sold a CAE 7000 Series Embraer 190 FFS to Swiss Aviation Training, a wholly owned subsidiary of Swiss International Airlines. The FFS will be delivered later this year. Also, CAE has received an order for two CAE 5000 Series A320 FFSs from Zhuhai Flight Training Centre, a joint venture between China Southern Airlines and CAE. Deliveries will begin later this year.

I do not understand why any airline would not want to make itself more attractive to customers by becoming more sustainable, resource efficient, and more cost effective to attract more customers. Having a smaller impact on the environment, and being lean and green throughout your business chain will generate more business and profits.

I have been against Cap & Trade programs for years. I have also SUPPORTED Feed-In-Tariffs and a TAX on carbon because those are the most direct approach to carbon reduction. I also support renewable energy projects, hybrid and Electric Vehicles and promote clean air and water initiatives. I do believe that something is warming our planet however I am not sure it is being caused by CO2. I also believe the term ‘global warming’ is a USELESS term outside of the scientific community. I can sell someone a 4 kW solar PV system for their home but I CAN’T sell then ‘global warming’. Global warming is NOT a product or service; you can’t buy it, sell it, save it, plant it in the ground and watch it grow or eat it. A word of advice; if you want more people to support some type of effort in this area ‘ promote a different term that is more meaningful and people will get on board.

I would have thought the more innovative, creative and responsible airlines would see the EU ETS charges as an opportunity rather than a threat.
